CREATING A MARKETING PLAN PART 5
November 23, 2015
In China, malls are empty of customers and shop keepers are playing board games while their customers are home shopping online … WOW! On November 11th (11/11) it was Single’s Day … a day to recognize all the single people. There was no profit in that idea … so a company called Alibaba found there was profit in creating a day to buy, buy, buy and a good day to sell, sell, sell.
Last year Alibaba’s Single’s Day sales topped $9 billion dollars in one day. This year on November 11th (11/11) Alibaba’s Singles’ Day sales surge 60 percent to $14.3 billion dollars. We’re talking 14.3 Billion dollars in one day … What a Marketing Plan!
Take over Single’s Day (from the single people) and make people spend $14.3 Billion dollars … that required a master Marketing Plan. It worked! People spent over $14 Billion in one day. Talk about Making a Dream come true.
However, that is not the real story here …
The $14.3 billion dollars spent in one day is not the real story here …
The real story is how Alibaba got people to spend the $14.3 Billion Dollars … Yes, it’s how … how … they did it. Alibaba created a Marketing Plan that included how to spend it on their mobile devices … yes how to spend billions placing orders on cellphones and tablets. They invested in mobile technology, (cellphone and tablet friendly) made it possible for people on the go, to click and order $14.3 Billion in one day.
Alibaba’s Single’s Day Marketing Plan included “How to buy” on Single’s Day … “use your phone or tablet and place your order”. No longer “Brick and Mortar” but “Click and Order” and the Marketing Plan worked … $14.3 Billion worth.
Look at your company web address on your cellphone … Do you like what you see? Is it mobile friendly? Want to keep it like that or upgrade? Your customers see the same thing you see. Today, time-starved customers will quickly “bounce” off your site if it isn’t easy to read and navigate.
Alibaba’s Single’s Day Marketing Plan demonstrated how and why part of your Marketing Plan should include your website view on cellphones and tablets.
Take a look at AlphabetDomains.com on your cellphone … it’s a mobile phone application … also called a mobile app. Alphabet Domains uses 100% mobile applications for all products and services. Customers can easily navigate from one page to the other. In fact, this is a mobile app you’re reading from now.
If you are creating a Marketing Plan, be sure to include a mobile friendly website or a mobile app in the plan … so you can “connect” with customers.
What good is a plan if no one can read or connect with it? Better yet, what good is a Marketing Plan if you’re not online? There are many providers of web services that can help get you online. Companies like, MsEllenApps.com.
Businesses have to create a Marketing Strategy in the Plan so they can stand out in the crowd (Like Chipotle). More information can be found here.
