A Winning Combination
January 6, 2016
Welcome to Alphabet Domains Live Online Marketing Class …
This evening Wednesday, January 6, 2015, we will be looking at Mobile Apps and Domains – A Winning Combination …
Mobile Apps and Domains – A Winning Combination … connects with consumers and local businesses alike.
Mobile Apps and Domains – A Winning Combination is an all important subject. Especially since we are constantly surrounded by both everyday.
In the last two classes we discussed the history of mobile devices over the last 40 years, from the phone in the car to the smartphone.
We’ve learned a lot about mobile phones, their use and their availability. Many people have several phones for personal or professional use.
Now we are in the age of the smartphone. Mobile is part of everyday life and there is no end in sight. It’s only going to increase in 2016.
With 7.1 billion cellphones and growing worldwide, it’s a challenge to find ways to connect with all of these customers or consumers.
With 7.1 billion cellphones and growing worldwide, advertisers and marketers are trying to find ways to monetize this platform as we speak.
The core question for many businesses involves the monetization of advertising and mobile ads on these mobile devices.
Banner ads was an instant “craze” for marketers. Soon came blocking software that soon put the flames out of those ideas. Now what?
Remember, advertisers are always at work trying to find ways to reach the consumer on their mobile phones.
Online ads has been the “bread and butter” of marketers for years. The prevailing attitude has been to place ads online and reap the rewards. This idea has lost it’s attraction.
With mobile far exceeding desktop purchases, naturally the attention of advertisers would be on mobile. “How to connect and engage with the consumer on mobile?”
With all of this “mobile” around us, advertisers want to capitalize on these ever increasing opportunities to connect with the mobile, time-starved consumer.
Two questions some might ask are: What is advertising and who are these advertisers?
Advertising is the activity or profession of producing advertisements for commercial products or services. #advertising #product #service
Advertisers are the professionals who engage in the practice of advertising products and services. #advertisement #professionalservices
With mobile phones numbers getting ever closer to the population on earth, the future is really in mobile advertising says many advertisers.
The numbers …
The growth of mobile ads increased 65% in 2014 with nearly $32 billion in net worth.
This jaw-dropping figure is an indication mobile is only going to grow. Now more than ever it’s “All hands on deck” for advertisers in 2016.
Many advertising professionals felt the end was near for mobile ads with their inability to find ways to make mobile ads pay.
Those days are gone!
Advertisers know how to connect and engage with the consumer and it’s being perfected as we speak right now!
In fact, mobile ads are on pace to far exceed desktop advertising in the near future. There’s no turning around for advertisers.
In 2016, it’s game on for both advertisers and the ways to connect with mobile customers…
Look at this platform, ads account for most of the revenue. The domain name was once a dream. Now the profits have made it a true reality!
Look at mobile ads on FB. They’re all over FB. So are the profits from mobile ads.
Think about this for a moment. Look at all of these mobile phones in use and all of the empty space on those screens … space is profit to advertisers.
You can see why the focus of advertisers are on mobile space … that’s right, mobile space … Every square inch of mobile space!
Here’s the problem for advertisers…
While professionals are trying to find ways to engage consumers using ads, consumers are trying to find ways to eliminate them.
In what direction do you think this mobile ad scale will tilt … If you said it will tilt towards the advertisers, you’re right!
Mobile use data has revealed some interesting details about mobile users. Mobile users spend a lot of time on mobile apps.
In fact, it’s been estimated that 86% of the time consumers spend on their mobile phone are spent on mobile apps. Yes! Mobile apps … not websites!
In 2016 and beyond, mobile apps will remain the preferred choice for mobile users. They have favorites and they will go there when on their phones.
Look around, most people are on mobile apps. From crushing “candy” to shopping. Take a poll yourself. Ask any person you know who regularly engages on mobile, if they use mobile apps.
More than 90% of the U.S. has cell service. And 86% of the people are on mobile apps. Is there a clue in here for all of us?
Yes, we should be connecting with consumers on mobile apps, since this where they are most of the time.
The problem for advertisers and marketers is how to get them from one app to the other in a seamless way.
They have found some success … not enough to declare victory.
What we do know is soon mobile analytics will soon solve that problem. Advertisers work 24/7 to solve mobile ad issues.
With billions of dollars at stake here, advertisers have to find ways to offer consumers the products and services they want, using mobile.
What’s happening now …
What we do know is … mobile analytics and data are enabling stores to laser target mobile consumers with information about current sales.
How do advertisers know what to offer the consumer? See those little mobile ads at the top of your “free” email with the “click here”.
While you’re on your phone, doing online searches in your area, notice the little “almost invisible” mobile ads.
See those mobile ads with the word “ad” at the top and bottom of the search page.
Look at what’s being offered. Look for the domain name somewhere on the screen. The offer is connected to a domain name for you to shop.
Advertisers know from the analytics this one fact: Mobile Apps and Domains are A Winning Combination.
An additional fact that will never escape advertisers: Once you have the attention of the consumer, they want to know where to go … now!
So they will always have a “link” for you to click on. They count every “click” and every “click” equals money. The more “clicks” more money!
The “link” is a domain name. Whoever owns the site gains revenue from the “clicks”. The more you “click” the happier the mobile app owner.
What’s going on right now…
Analytics of mobile data has revealed an interesting desire of mobile users: Mobile users are always looking for deals. Yes, deals.
Long before the internet, “brick and mortar” stores found out something very interesting about consumers…
Consumers will travel for miles to get something for FREE!
They will spend $20 for gas, travel 35 miles and spend 2.5 hours to get 4 free hot dogs if they buy 4 medium drinks. WOW!
2015 data shows this mindset has not changed…Give them something for free, and they will come … from everywhere … for miles.
Buy one, get one free. They call it BOGO (Bogo.xyz). Some even call it a “Bigger Better BOGO!
Advertisers call it coupons. Mobile apps with free coupons.
Do an online search for coupons. Over 300 million comes up. Do this on your phone and you will see “FREE” over and over with a “link” …
Remember, every “link” is not there by chance. It’s by design! The advertisers have done the math. “Give them something for FREE and they will come … from everywhere.”
This successful use of coupons for local and national businesses has paid off. Coupon mobile apps for grocery shopping, clothes and more has skyrocketed.
Do a mobile search for deals, coupons and online promo codes from 1000s of retailers … with deals at your favorite stores and restaurants, see the result…
Advertisers have found out the offering of coupons will engage consumers on mobile devices. Now there is a rise in coupon mobile apps.
Keep in mind this fact about advertisers: While we sleep, they rotate in shifts working to resolve mobile ad issues.
Soon mobile location data will reveal the buying or shopping habits of mobile users. We call this location-based mobile analytics.
Armed with this data, advertisers will be able to offer real-time mobile ads for area stores, sales, restaurants and much more.
In the not to distant future, something very interesting is going to happen to help mobile consumers…
This location-based mobile analytics and data will allow retailers or stores who have your contact information (cellphone number) to message you when you’re close by their stores.
Just walking through the mall or a drive in the area could get you a message like this …”Janet we have red dresses on sale for 60 minutes. Come in and buy yours while supplies last.”
Or an ad like this … ” Mike, your favorite red velvet ice cream is buy one get one for the next 60 minutes!”
Or an ad like this … “Click our app and see our special offer on movie tickets. Good for the next 30 minutes.”
Or an ad like this … “Danny, it’s time to get your oil change. It’s $10.95 for the next 30 minutes.”
Or like this … “Janice, you just won a new set of utensils for your new kitchen. Go to our app and tap “Accept” then pick it up before 5 pm.”
Location-based mobile analytics we referred to earlier will result in retailers sending messages to consumers with offers or go to the app for deals.
By now you’re thinking about what advertisers will need for this location-based mobile analytics to succeed … If you said a domain you are correct.
Mobile Apps and Domains are A Winning Combination
Soon retailers are going to make a special effort to let consumers know they have a mobile app with their existing domain name or another domain name for them to find the deals.
Look at the TV commercials, notice the mobile phone on the top half of the screen (some even flash or blink) to get our attention.
Advertisers want our attention, they are using location-based advertising to connect. They want us on their mobile app!
Advertisers want consumers to redeem those coupons for “savings”. What they really want is for consumers to keep the mobile phone in their hand and be ready to shop using their mobile apps!
What they really want is for consumers to keep the mobile in their hand and remember their domain name when hungry or want clothes!
Now, what does this mean for local businesses, online stores, domain owners or any business who wants more customers?
There are several things to keep in mind as we come close to the end of this program. In fact, there are four things.
First, use mobile apps with the best domain name you can afford to engage or connect with customers. There are many mobile app developers who are willing to assist businesses.
Secondly, use location-based mobile analytics to connect with consumers. There are plenty of firms who specialize in this area.
Third, location-based advertising is the future for brick and mortar stores. Offer to help them understand how this will “save” their businesses.
Fourth, your customers are on mobile phones, so create a long term strategy to connect with them. Your competition is doing this right now!
Mobile Apps and Domains are A Winning Combination, especially when we include a plan for location-based mobile analytics and the best domain name.
